MATH STATION # 6
COUNTING BY 5'S=APPLE BUMP
Skill Content/Objective: Students will count by 5's
Materials: Apple Bump Game board per group of 2
2 dice per group
Transparent counters/chips-6 per player
Sheet of paper
Pencil
Description: Counting by 5's Bump game. Students roll dice and count by 5's the number on the dice. They then place a counter on the number. Example, student rolls a nine, counts aloud by 5's to 45, puts counter on 45 on game board. Student wins when all their counters are gone. Students should write on their paper for each turn how many 5's they counted and what number that was.
Differentiation:
-For students who need more support, you can give them extra counters to use to determine what number they have on their dice. Example, a student rolls a six, they can use six counters to count by five's to determine what number they can put a counter on on the board, i.e. 30.
-For students who need more of a challenge, you can increase the numbers on the apple bump board and have them roll 3 dice instead of 2.
Assessment:
Formative: Listen while students are counting aloud by 5's to determine what number their counter should go on.
Summative: Students should turn in paper with 5's counted on it with numbers they used.
