MATH IS FOR THE BIRDS
Skill Content/Objective: Students will count by even numbers
Students will count by odd numbers
Materials: 15 Chick cards for even numbers for each student
15 Penguin cards for odd numbers for each student
"I Can" cards for each differentiated group

Description: Students each take an "I Can" card based on their group number. Each group will also have different sets of chick and penguin cards based on their groups. For the basic activity, students label the chicks starting at 2 and go up by even numbers to 30. Students then label the penguin cards starting at 1 and go up by odd numbers to 29. When completed, students should read out the cards by set and say if they are even or odd.-Green "I Can" Cards
Differentiation:
-For students who need more support, you can have the numbers on the cards and have them put the cards in order by even and odd numbers.-Blue "I Can" Cards
-For students who need more of a challenge, have the cards go to 50 or 100.-Orange "I Can" cards
-For students who need more of a challenge, you can have addition or subtraction problems on the cards. The students then can write in the answer and say if it is even or odd.-Purple "I Can" Cards
Assessment:
Summative: -Students turn in cards they worked on and assess for understanding.
-In small groups, go over cards with students
-With entire class, review chicks and penguins on board by having children come up and put them in the correct places based on even and odd numbering.
